NOT ONLY SEA
Ustica is much more!
Ustica offers much more than an uncontaminated blue sea. A unique natural environment makes this beautiful island the ideal habitat for many rare birds, making it one of the best birdwatching places in Sicily. If you love nature, you will definitely be delighted by the beauties of Ustica, the "Black Pearl of the Mediterranean".
ARCHAEOLOGICAL ROUTES AND NATURALISTIC PATHS
Nature trails for trekking, walking between the coast and the mountain sides, breathtaking views. Ustica's Natural Reserve was established in 1997 and it extended over Monte Guardia dei Turchi. At present, thanks to the reserve, it is possible to live in a Garden of Eden preserved from man's vandalism.
Not far from the town is the Rocca della Falconiera: from here you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Santa Maria cove and of the districts of Tramontana and Piano dei Cardoni. On the crater edge of the last volcano are the remains of Roman dwellings; the relics of the Bourbon fortification host the Laboratory-Museum of Volcanology; a necropolis with early Christian hypogeum tombs.
Another fascinating archaeological site is the Faraglioni Village, considered by scholars one of the most interesting monuments of the Middle Bronze Age in the Mediterranean. Many other nature trails wind along the whole island, including the "Sentiero di Mezzogiorno", the "Sentiero di Tramontana", the paths through the woods and the "Sentiero dei Quattro Venti".
You may have a complete view of the island from Monte Guardia dei Turchi.
